And Jesus said, "Come to the water, stand by my side;
I know you are thirsty, you won't be denied.
I felt every teardrop when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."
As I sat there in church listening to this, I thought of Joshua and what he has just gone through and continues to go through with his parents, of all the others who have had to undergo similar sorrows because of who they are, and the thought of the teardrops they cry in the darkness brought teardrops to my own eyes. I had to look up at the ceiling to avoid breaking down — looking at actual flesh and blood people was making it just too intense.
This is what I want everybody who struggles or is in pain because of a homosexual orientation or the reactions of other people to it to realize. There is a God who understands how you feel and weeps with you. God also weeps at the hard-heartedness of those who hate you and bring you to tears.
Many people in the church become so fixated on homosexuality that they forget that God loves everybody. They become so fixated on their belief that homosexual activity is sinful that they forget that there are many ways heterosexuals can sin. And they seem to forget that there are many kinds of sins that have nothing to do with sex. If we preach a certain sexual morality, we must always try to keep a sense of proportion about it, and above all we must try to remember and emulate God's love and compassion. He feels every teardrop when in darkness you cry.
