I forgot to buy squash, which we usually have on Thanksgiving, so all we had for Thanksgiving dinner was roast turkey with bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, baked (microwaved) yams, gravy, cranberry sauce, home baked mince and pumpkin pies with sage cheese. The yams were there for the first time in a long time. Actually, we used to have sweet potatoes, but all I could find in the store was yams, and I think they're basically the same thing anyway. I got them because my brother likes them. I never really cared for them, but I had some nice sweet potato in a restaurant recently, so they're back on my radar screen.
Things that used to be part of the meal when we had way more than two people to eat it included, in addition to the items mentioned above, relish plate of celery and stuffed green olives, potato stuffing, scalloped oysters, creamed onions, and steamed pudding with foamy custard sauce in adult and children's versions and hard sauce.
