Japan Relief

ShelterBox USA is part of an international organization which provides emergency relief in areas hit by natural disasters. The principal item they provide in each box they deliver is a tent which can shelter up to 10 people made homeless by the disaster. Other equipment to aid in survival is also packed in the box. You can see what a box looks like on the website which I have linked. You can also go from that page to the affiliate in any of the 18 countries where they are organized (including the U.K., Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, France, Canada, etc.).

It seems to me that temporary shelter will be a big need for survivors whose homes have been destroyed in the Tsunami, so I have sent them $100.00

I first heard of the organization after the earthquake in Haiti. A representative gave a presentation in my hometown, and I was very impressed by the work they do. Other organizations provide other kinds of relief which are also necessary, but ShelterBox has a well-focused and important purpose, and they are very experienced at the part of disaster relief that they provide.

I'll probably also give something to the Catholic Medical Mission Board, Doctors Without Borders, and/or Catholic Relief Services.
