I liked the Gunther Schuller piece, "Where the Word Ends" when I heard it Thursday evening. So did the reviewer for the Boston Globe. Here's the url for his review.

If you are thinking of listening this evening or on Sunday afternoon a week from now, these might help you decide, and might help you enjoy it if you listen. Also, my previous post has the url for the "official" Program Notes, which tell you more. BTW, until this week, I thought the title was "Where the World Ends," but it's really "Where the Word Ends," meaning that music picks up where speech leaves off.
If you're not interested in hearing a soprano sing Mozart arias, you can begin listening at about 8:25. That's when she got done on Thursday evening. So unless there's a last minute change, you'll be safe waiting till then. (Even safer if you tune in on time and make sure they'll be following the plan.) The Schuller piece finished just before 9:00. It took closer to 1/2 hour than the 25 minutes people speak of in the program notes.
Enjoy!
