July 06 — St. Maria Goretti

Maria Goretti, a poor 11 year old peasant girl, was brutally attacked on July 5, 1902, by Alessandro Serenelli, a 20 year old farm worker, when she resisted his sexual advances. She died of her multiple stab wounds the following day. There is much detail in the wiki article and other sources, such as this, available through Google. Her mother was present at her beatification in 1947, and both her mother and her killer attended her canonization in 1950.

Her story and example can remind us to remain true to our standards of right and wrong when it comes to sex, as well as in all other areas of life. We don't need to let ourselves be seduced by the importunings of others or cultural standards which don't meet our personal norms. Because ultimately we alone are responsible for whatever we do.
