Happy St. Parick's Day.
Three years ago I posted on my music blog with several url's for the Irish National Anthem. It was before I learned to create links, so you'll have to copy and paste. But I think it's a good anthem. Try the English version first. I like the tempo better that the first one I listed.
Today I want to post a bit to say what the fuss is all about. (It's not about green beer.)

Basically, it's the fact the he was highly effective as a missionary in the country to which he was kidnapped, from which he escaped, and to which he willingly returned that makes him so much admired.
The prayer for today's Mass says, "O God, who chose the Bishop Saint Patrick to preach your glory to the peoples of Ireland, grant, through his merits and intercession, that those who glory in the name of Christian may never cease to proclaim your wondrous deeds to all.

I prefer the Irish version, mainly because I don't understand the words, and even better with instruments only. I feel the same about our National Anthem. I'd rather not dwell on guns and war - just enjoy the melody.
St. Patrick's Day used to be a happy occasion for me. It was my younger brother's birthday. He died suddenly in 1986 when he was just 43. March 17th now just brings sadness.
